Can Anyone Stop UConn?

UConn - The Heavy Favorite

As we put a cap on the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 and head into the Final Four, one thing is obvious. The UConn Huskies are the heavy favorite and it’s not particularly close. UConn, the defending national champions, secured a spot in the Final Four with a resounding 77-52 victory over Illinois, fueled by Donovan Clingan's standout performance of 22 points and 10 rebounds. This win marks UConn's 10th consecutive double-digit victory in March Madness, setting a new record.

The top-seeded Huskies, boasting a remarkable 35-3 record, are on a path that seems destined for a sixth national title. Their dominance in this year's NCAA Tournament includes convincing wins by margins of 39, 17, 30, and 25 points.

Next, UConn will travel for the first time in almost a month to face the West Region champion Alabama, in Glendale, Arizona, for the Final Four.

This achievement makes UConn the first defending champions to reach the national semifinals since 2007, hinting at the possibility of back-to-back titles.

In the game against Illinois, Marcus Domask led the Fighting Illini with 17 points, while star player Terrence Shannon Jr. struggled with only eight points on 2-of-12 shooting. UConn's Cam Spencer and Hassan Diarra contributed 11 points each, with Alex Karaban adding 10 points to the scoreboard.

The key factor in Illinois' struggle was Clingan's dominant presence, especially evident in the first half where the Fighting Illini managed just four points while Clingan was on the court. UConn's remarkable 30-0 run in the second half further solidified their lead and showcased their exceptional performance.

With a school-record 35 wins this season, UConn's journey to another national title appears to be unstoppable.

The victory marked another impressive feat for UConn in the NCAA Tournament, following their double-digit wins against San Diego State, Northwestern University, and Stetson University in earlier rounds.

Opening Day is Here

Major League Baseball's 2024 season began with Opening Day, offering an early glimpse into what fans can expect. Despite the limited sample size of one game out of 162, here are Jesse Yomtov from USA Today’s biggest takeaways:

Angels' Struggles Continue:

The Los Angeles Angels started their post-Shohei Ohtani era with a familiar script: Mike Trout hit a home run, but the team ultimately lost to the Baltimore Orioles. Despite Trout's offensive prowess, the Angels gave up 11 unanswered runs after taking an early lead, highlighting ongoing challenges for the team.

Blue Jays' Offensive Power:

The Toronto Blue Jays showcased their offensive strength against the Tampa Bay Rays, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer hitting home runs in an 8-2 victory. This performance hints at the Blue Jays' potential to be a potent offensive force this season.

Tyler Glasnow's Impact on the Dodgers:

The Los Angeles Dodgers' acquisition of Tyler Glasnow proved to be a significant move, as Glasnow delivered strong pitching performances in his first two starts. Despite past injury concerns, Glasnow's early contributions bode well for the Dodgers' pitching rotation.

Yankees' Bullpen Resilience:

In a comeback win against the Houston Astros, the New York Yankees showcased the depth and resilience of their bullpen. After falling behind early, the Yankees' bullpen held the Astros scoreless for the final seven innings, securing a 5-4 victory. Pitchers like Nestor Cortes and relievers Jonathan Loáisiga, Ian Hamilton, and Clay Holmes played crucial roles in the team's Opening Day success.

Opening Day for Golf!!!

In the North anyway…

You know what time it is? It's Opening Day, not just for baseball but also for golf! If you're like us in the northern parts and have been waiting eagerly to get back on the course after the offseason, then you know the excitement is real.

Before you tee off on your first round back, let's talk about getting your game and gear ready with our ultimate 5-point checklist for the season ahead with help from our friends over at golf.com.

  • CHECK YOUR SWING:

  • After a long break, your swing might feel a bit rusty. No worries, though! Start with some stretches to get your body warmed up and ready to go. Think split stance lunges, backswing drills, and torso turns to get that swing back in midseason form.

  • CHECK YOUR BASICS:

  • Good fundamentals make for a good swing. Check your grip, alignment, and posture. Make sure your grip is solid, your alignment is on point, and your posture is ready to deliver those powerful shots.

  • GET A HANDICAP:

  • If you don't have a Handicap Index, now's the time to get one. It helps you gauge your game and compete on an even playing field. Plus, no one likes a sandbagger!

  • MANAGE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Don't expect to break any records on your first round back. It's normal to feel a bit off early in the season. Use these rounds to diagnose your game and work on areas that need improvement.

  • DIAL IN YOUR GEAR:

  • Check your golf bag, replace worn-out grips, adjust your clubs if needed, and know your club specs. Having the right gear can make a big difference in your game.

So, there you have it, folks! Get ready for an exciting golf season ahead. Whether you're hitting the links for the first time in months or you've been practicing all winter, it's time to enjoy the game we all love. Hit 'em straight and have a great season!

SBF Gets 25 Years…

Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images

SBF was found guilty of defrauding customers and investors of his cryptocurrency exchange FTX and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday by a federal judge, who ruled that Bankman-Fried committed perjury and attempted witness tampering. He could do as little as 12.5 years with good behavior.

A light sentence considering he lost 8 billion dollar’s worth of customer deposits. It’s not unheard of for fraudsters to walk away pretty unscathed, Enron CEO Jeff Skilling got 24-years, and Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes only got 11. I’m sure it will be in a cushy low security prison with a tennis court. Think of Jordan Belforts character in the Wolf of Wall Street.

Hopefully this will serve as a warning and reminder to those investing, working, and innovating the crypto space. It’s not play money, it’s very real. People’s lives are affected, and there is accountability.

Godzilla X Kong, Give Us All the Monster Fights

I don’t know about you, but I love when these movies come out. I love these movies for what they are, fun. If you’re looking for academy award winning acting/writing/and directing Godzilla x Kong: The New World is probably not the movie for you. If you’re looking for an hour and fifty-five minutes of giant monsters throwing down, get your popcorn ready.

Warner Bros

Kong and Godzilla are teaming up again to take on a new foe, a new giant ape that’s going to make us question everything we’ve learned from Kong: Skull Island to the Monarch TV series. Not really but that’s what they’re telling us. If I’m being honest with myself here, I don’t even really need much of a plot here. Give me some semblance of a conflict between the monsters and let’s get into it, like the title says, give us all the monster fights.
